The island of Naxos is steeped in tradition and history. Apart from Chora, there are numerous villages worth seeing. In reality, some of the most attractive villages in Greece can be found on this island, where traditional and cultural aspects transport you back in time. In addition, many monuments of Greek history can be found strewn over the island, demonstrating that there is still much more to learn about antiquity.
The Cyclades’ most interesting hiking terrain is on Naxos. The vastness and variety of the routes, together with their good condition, natural landscape, and authenticity of the communities, provide a high-quality hiking experience that is unique to the Greek islands.
Οne of its main activities would be anything involving water, given the island is surrounded by it. Because it is one of the larger islands, it naturally has a lot more to offer in terms of land activities, necessitating overland travel. Mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding are among the land-based outdoor activities, while water-based activities are the mainstay of the vacation.
Swimming, snorkeling, and diving are all popular activities on the beaches (of which there are at least 30), many of which have blue flag waters. Windsurfing, kite surfing, and sailing are a little more expensive.
For the first two, all of the essential equipment can be rented, and reserving spots on a sailboat for a day is not prohibitively expensive. If none of these hobbies appeal to you and you’re looking for some quiet time to unwind, a few yards of line and a hook for some fishing can provide hours of calm reflection as you gaze out to sea.
Horseback riding on vacation is undoubtedly something to photograph and brag about. Few vacationers choose this option, preferring instead to partake in more mundane activities. Galloping around our island beaches and riding the trails that allow you to see the island’s splendor at a strolling pace is also a unique experience.
